Rebuilding the Village: How Nurture 19 Is Changing What Support for Parents Looks Like

Let’s be real—parenting today feels like a never-ending to-do list, a logistical maze, and a crash course in multitasking no one warned you about. You’re supposed to build a career, raise kind humans, care for your mental and physical health, and do it all while smiling through your sleep deprivation.

Now imagine a space where you can drop your child off with trusted care, finish a few hours of work in peace, see your therapist, hit a yoga class, maybe get your laundry done—and leave with less on your list than when you walked in.

That’s the vision behind Nurture 19—and co-founder Erica Rose Cummings, LCSW, joined me on The Mama Making Podcast to share exactly how they’re rebuilding the village.

The Idea That Grew Out of Burnout

Erica didn’t just wake up one day with a business plan. Like so many of us, she walked through the fire of postpartum mental health struggles and came out the other side with a mission.

After experiencing birth trauma and postpartum PTSD during grad school, she knew something had to change.

“I realized I wasn’t broken. The system was,” she shares.

She partnered with longtime friend and fellow mom Elora Diaz—an education executive and former school board president—and together they started designing something that didn’t yet exist: a physical space designed to meet the real needs of parents.

What Is Nurture 19?

Nurture 19 is a first-of-its-kind wellness hub for parents that brings together the services you usually have to chase across town into one supportive, beautiful, intentional space.

Here’s what it includes:

  • On-demand, high-quality childcare

  • Coworking spaces

  • Mental health therapy

  • Pelvic floor PT and postpartum services

  • Fitness and spa amenities (yes—cold plunge, steam, massage, esthetician)

  • A nap room

  • Laundry drop-off, home management help, meal prep support

  • A community café, peer support groups, and parenting classes

Jessica calls it parent utopia. Honestly, it’s not an exaggeration.

Meeting the Mental Health Moment

As a practicing therapist, Erica sees firsthand how burnout and guilt are baked into modern parenting. The message is clear: be endlessly selfless, never complain, and definitely don’t ask for help.

“There’s a cultural narrative that says being a good mom means sacrificing everything,” she says. “We’ve internalized it—but it’s not sustainable.”

Nurture 19 flips that script by offering care that meets you where you are—emotionally, logistically, and financially.

It’s About Community, Not Just Convenience

What sets this apart isn’t just the amenities—it’s the mindset. Erica and Elora know that real support isn’t just about checked boxes; it’s about building trust, reducing guilt, and reconnecting you with other people who get it.

Whether it’s chatting in the café after a yoga class or dropping your toddler off in a space that feels like a second home, Nurture 19 is designed to foster belonging.

“We’re not trying to compete with providers,” Erica says. “We’re creating a space that uplifts them—and makes it easier for families to access care.”

Accessibility That Goes Beyond Buzzwords

One of the most exciting (and radical) aspects of the Nurture 19 model is its equity-for-membership option. A portion of your monthly membership gives you stock in the company—because families shouldn’t have to choose between short-term needs and long-term financial growth.

And if you’re not in Chicago or Tucson—where the first spaces will be located—don’t worry. There’s an app in development, a growing national network, and a bigger vision for systemic advocacy.

Crowdfunding That’s Actually Community-Building

Nurture 19 is currently in its first round of crowdfunding, and it’s refreshingly creative. Beyond simple donations, you can purchase:

  • Rest kits

  • Mindfulness bundles

  • Partner services (home organizing, financial planning)

  • Branded sustainable dinnerware

  • And more

Every contribution helps fund the first locations and supports a mission that benefits families, local providers, and future generations.

Why This Isn’t Just a “Mom Thing”

Erica is the first to say it: this isn’t just about moms. It’s about parents, caregivers, and the entire ecosystem around them.

“Parental burnout is a public health issue. It affects the economy, the workforce, and the wellbeing of future generations.”

Whether you’re in the thick of raising babies or simply care about the well-being of your team, your sister, or your community—this work matters.
